This is a collection of audio applications for Windows, these are either open source or freeware

 

  • AIMP – 32 bit audio processing and multi-format playback.
  • Audacity – is a free, open source, cross-platform software for recording and editing sounds. A very powerful piece of software with the sort of features you would expect in a commercial program, a bit of a learning curve but many tutorials available online
  • AudioNodes – Modular audio production suite with multi-track audio mixing, audio effects, parameter automation, MIDI editing, synthesis, cloud production, and more.
  • CDex – is a CD Ripper that allows you to extract audio tracks from a CD directly in wav format. Other file formats are available such as mp3(French site, English program).
  • Dopamine – is an audio player which tries to make organizing and listening to music as simple and pretty as possible. It can play formats like wav, mp3, ogg vorbis, flac, wma, ape, opus and m4a/aac.
  • Exact Audio Copy – Transfer files from your CDs to your PC in almost every format.Comes with some pretty nifty features too.
  • Foobar2000 – is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform., supports a huge range of audio formats and there are a lot of other interesting features as well such as support for ripping Audio CD, Customizable keyboard shortcuts and tagging capabilities.
  • K-Lite Codecs – Collection of DirectShow filters, VFW/ACM codecs, and tools. There are 4 packs available – a must download for Windows this
  • Kodi – Free and Open Source home theatre software. This is an impressive piece of software with many add-ons, many of which I cannot go into this site for legal reasons. This is pretty much the go to piece of software for a home theatre.
  • Mixxx – integrates the tools DJs need to perform creative live mixes with digital music files. Whether you are a new DJ with just a laptop or an experienced turntablist, Mixxx can support your style and techniques of mixing.
  • Musicbee – Do you like iTunes or did like the iTunes interface but not like Apple. Try, MusicBee as it makes it easy to manage, find, and play music files on your computer. MusicBee also supports podcasts, web radio stations and SoundCloud integration
  • MusicBrainz Picard – Picard is a cross-platform music tagger that looks up and rewrite metadata tags, its is written in Python. Picard uses AcoustID audio fingerprints, allowing files to be identified by the actual music, even if they have no metadata.
  • Qtractor – is an Audio/MIDI multi-track sequencer application written in C++ with the Qt framework.
  • Resonic – is a fast audio and music player, directory player, and sample browser, built around a big waveform view, a frequency analyzer, and a musical spectrum.
  • WACUP – An extension/improvement to Winamp, providing bugfixes and more features such as a better MOD player and YouTube support.
  • Winamp – Do you remember Winamp, I do. I had it years ago, well it still exists. Its a Music player capable of playing MP3s, MP2s, WAVs, VOCs and MIDI files.
